seeing your Mom's eyes. I have just had my first visit with Mom today and she is awake. The nurse says she has been alert starting last night and is nodding to answer questions.
Dad and Gary visited with her earlier this morning, as well. When Gary asked if they could say a prayer together, Mom nodded her head. Dad has been able to hold her hand and let her know that so many people are thinking of her and sending their love.
Medical stats: She is up to 57ccs of nutrition and is breathing only 8bpm with the ventilator providing the other half of her breaths on her own.
We are very excited about this progress, yet overwhelmed by the emotions that come with seeing Mom and wanting to talk to her and have her remain calm as she cannot talk back.
The doctor confirmed this morning that they will operate on her shoulder on Monday morning.
Eric will be here shortly and we are excited to share this special day with him.

What a gift from God. I am so thankful you are able to spend time with her. Although it might seem like baby steps they are important steps for her recovery. In no time she will be able to respond to you with words. Mom and I think she will send you to the after Christmas sales to get some good deals for her! What wonderful news that Anita is alert and responsive. It's wonderful that all of you were there today to communicate with her.
Tell her that Bill and I have found an Indian jewelry outlet and that we need her to go shopping with us. We think it has a Sedona conection.
