Gone, but not lost - I'm Back !

Dear Family and Friends,
It was sort of an uneventful weekend and then it stretched in Monday, throw in a pestering, hacking cough and I'm in bed by nine. The decision is in, first the catheter out Wed am and Anita out next Tuesday PM. Just ask Anita and she's the first to admit , it's a little bit scary. Sort of like, Eli Manning. Two to three minutes to go and the clock is running. They gave Anita several days to make up for the erector set removal and a day of checking and rechecking the blood thinner situation. ( orig. talked about discharge this Fri.)
The future is some home rehab with visiting rehab folks and some visits to the rehab office at Emory Hospital's rehab facility. Kenny is going to build a short ramp so we can roll from the garage into the kitchen. Our doors are not all that wide so we'll need a narrow wheel chair to move around the house and into the bathroom and maybe a more normal wheel chair to carry with us when we travel. As you might guess, we're talking some new territory here.
So I will say good bye to my guest qtrs at Allison and Kenny's house and head back out to Covington. Thank you for being with us, it's amazing to think back sixty seven days and try to comprehend all the support we have received. We will be contacting many family and friends in the months to come. Take care and we'll get back to more reg. blogging. ed

I know your emotions have been tested since this tragic accident and now that she will be coming home, your real work begins. She has needed a lot of help since it happened and now much of that continuing help will be provided by you and your close family. I haven't had a chance to talk to you again recently and ther's a question I have been forgetting to ask you about. I know the other driver was charged with DUI. I'm hoping you've had time to connect with a good personal injury lawyer.

. Tell Anita to work on here rehab as I've book a 2 bedroom Condo in Hawaii as I talked to Ed about a short time ago. If your interested and Anita is well enough by then, we would love to have you accompany us. I have booked it a ground floor to accomidate wheelchair acces, if it would still be required by then.

. The date to arrive in Paradise is Sptember 12th and the return date would be September 19th. Our prayers are with you. I know hospitals are not much fum as I have spent 47 days in 3 different hospital here in California during 2007. I'm feeling much better now, but Dialysis is a life altering experience.

. I've been tolerating dialysis very well and it has made a world of difference in my well-being. During the last 12 months, I’ve lost 75 pounds and I can now see my feet and tie my own shoes.

Love to all,
Gary G.

67 days! I think that should qualify as two Lenten seasons, at least. No giving up chocolate until February of 2010. Yaaaaaay!

We've been praying for Anita to improve enough for liberation from the hospital, so now we have to say a million prayers of thanksgiving - - - in between prayers that Anita will be able to celebrate Easter at Central.
